Thistles Victoria Jewel of BelleGrace - AKA "Tory"
Although I may be behind in posting Tory's tidbit (like three years behind), it does not, however, mean that we love Tory any less. She, like her big sister Morgan, is a valuable and fearcely loved member of the Provan family.
Tory is a brown sable, smooth coated shiloh shepherd born at the extremely successful BelleGrace Shilohs Kennel owned and operated by Dawn Swick, and located in Murrysville, PA. As a thank you for helping conduct an LER (litter evaluation) on the Black Bear Sweet Honey O'Zion x King Toran litter, I was given the priveledge of having first pick of the litter. Hence...my little Tory Bear came bouncing into our family.
A pup from this litter is both mesmerizing in its beauty and has almost human-like qualities...a fact that I admit I was not prepared for. Whereas Morgan is very instinctual and is a great family dog, I discovered Tory has a totally opposite forte than her sister; She seems to be perfectly well-suited for police work or search and rescue...jobs that require an extra special thinking capacity. I am about to be put to the test.
I have owned dogs before, but none have been so saavy and as "testing" as my Tory. Lord knows I love that "not-so-little-anymore" furball of mine, but there have been times where frustration has won out when it comes to earning her respect...and earn her respect you must!
Fastforwarding a couple years...the Air Force decided to station my husband at Lakenheath, United Kingdom. This means moving our entire household across the ocean...and it means our Tory girl would have to stay behind with the breeder due to our fears that the strict laws of the country would be too risky to take her. We had reluctantly arranged for Dawn to try to find Tory a good home with a person experienced in handling strong willed dogs.
My husband and I pondered this for several months...all the while my beloved Tory was with Dawn so that we could fix our house up to sell. Keeping in touch with Dawn, I learned that Tory just would not take to another family. Her spirit is solely ours. In the end, even though we were initially excited about going to Europe, we felt that we needed Tory just as much as she needed us.
After all the drama over the last several months, everything has worked out well. Dawn has instilled some manners in that hard-to-crack noggin' of Tory's and she is now obeying and showing me a level of respect she never has before. And Matt took an extra long tour in Korea in order to cancel the orders to Lakenheath so we could have Tory back. We won't know where we will be going next, but we do know that Tory isn't going anywhere without us ever again!
